The Driving Test

From December 4th 2017 The UK Practical Driving Test will be changing. The main changes are that the Turn In The Road and Reversing Around a Corner To The Left will no longer be part of the test and will be replaced by 2 new manoeuvres.

They will be Driving forwards into a car park space and then reversing out, and pulling up on the right hand side of the road, reversing back 2 to 3 car lengths and then moving off safely back into the flow of traffic.

The other major change is that the Independent Driving part of the test will be made longer, around 20 minutes, replacing the older 10 minute section. The New Independent Drive will also be carried out with the use of a TomTom satnav as opposed to the old verbal / visual system.

The final change to the test will be how the "Show me Tell me" questions will work. You will still be asked one question at the test centre but you will be asked another when you are on the move. You must be able to demonstrate to the examiner that you can operate a control such as the windscreen washers while keeping full control of the vehicle

Please note... The 2 manoeuvres that are no longer in the test will still be taught. If you should accidentally take a wrong turn on the test into a no through road, that is not a problem. However, if you cannot turn around safely to leave the road, that can cause you to fail your test.
